Guys, the TVM remake was made in 1998. This classic was filmed in 1958! Its probably my favourite John Wayne film. By 1958, Wayne was getting a bit too old to be playing these two-fisted characters and John T Chance (love that name) was the last such character he would play convincingly.
The movie, however, belongs to Dean Martin's charcter Dude. One of the major themes invloves Dude's redemption after a two-year drinking binge. Rounding out the cast is wooden Ricky Nelson, leggy Angie Dickinson, and grumpy old Walter Brennan.
Director Howard Hawks, a major influence on John Carpenter, liked this movie so much that he essentially remade two more times.
