Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Roger B — 31 Aug 2008
From a different age of acting, every character seems "turned down" compared to today's typically over-the-top performances. the dynamics between the characters are what make this a glossy and sympathetic (but unrealistic) portrayal of the wild west.
dean martin's character seemed to be the only one to go through any kind of transformation - his malady caused by "woman troubles", a recurring theme in the movie. they manage to sneak in a song for ricky nelson.
and oh yeah, the stereotypical "mexican" character - wtf?!
