Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Shirley M — 05 Jul 2009
One of my favorite movies. A movie that is well paced, has a great cast, great direction, and has a great atmosphere (this is what most of us imagine the old west to be, highly disillusioned as it may be.).
Just a great story with the opening having a few misdirections involving John Wayne and Dean Martin which is fantastic. It then turns into the local hero and his friends saving the town from the bad guys. Throw in Angie Dickinson as the gravelly voiced hussy, Walter Brennan as the washed up old coot, and Ricky Nelson as the hot new gunslinger and it really feels like you are back in the old west, well at least the kid version.
I personally could do without the singing but accept that was part of the entertainment back then so it fits.
A great western.
