Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Venkatesh V — 07 Feb 2011
This is one of my favorite movies to star the Duke, or should I say, John Wayne! It's not just John Wayne who is great in this movie, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson are also fabulous, as well as Walter Brennan!
I remember that the very first time I saw this movie, I really wanted to watch it again like I wanted to do with a lot of other fabulous movies that I have also seen!
But poor Dude, he really had a hard time trying to live down his reputation as being a drunkard, every he was in a saloon, one of Burdette's men would take out a dollar and throw it into a spittoon and begin laughing. Mainly because they knew that he would put his hand into all of that spit, chewed up tobacco, and other stuff just to get the dollar for a drink. But in the end, he lived down his reputation!
John Wayne is mostly a Western actor, the only good movie I've seen him in that is not a western is "The Quiet Man", apart from that, he was not. John Wayne should have gotten an Academy Award nomination for this movie, because he was fabulous in it!
Don't like John Wayne and westerns? Then if you don't, this movie is not for you. But if you Do like John Wayne and westerns, then this movie is for you! You really must see this!
