Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Ed A — 08 Jul 2011
Quite possibly John Wayne's best film. I think this pips 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance', for me. The Duke's acting is more natural and understated than a lot of the hammy over-the-top performances he's put in.
Dean Martin is great as Wayne's deputy trying his utmost to stay on the wagon. Walter Brennan's crazy turn is superb and even Ricky Nelson isn't bad. There are a couple of nice musical moments and Angie Dickcinson is gorgeous.
Very good and highly recommended.
