Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Callum S — 08 Jul 2013
A timeless, powerful and memorable western by Howard Hawks, featuring an excellent John Wayne performance and a stellar supporting cast including Ricky Nelson and Angie Dickinson (their best roles) and scene stealers Dean Martin and Walter Brennan give their best work ever.
It's paced slowly but beautifully, allowing to flesh the characters and the personalities out, showing the situation in sustained fashion and lets the brilliant screenplay do its thing. A classic, sharply directed western masterpiece.
