Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Tabitha W — 28 May 2009
Rio Bravo is merely the right wing - white washed - feel good- response to the far superior High Noon. I don't like John Wayne. The fact that this film stars John Wayne and Ricki Nelson represents everything that was the ideal conservative american male in the 50's.
John Wayne and Howard Hawks hated High Noon, criticizing it for it's political allegory on the blacklisting of the era. They fired back with in my opinion a much less aesthetically pleasing film, a much more conventional film, and much less interesting film, Rio Bravo.
