Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Douglas M — 20 Feb 2011
Made because Howard Hawks didn't like High Noon (he felt that a "proper" sheriff wouldn't run around town begging for help). This is a great Western, and arguably the greatest of all time. Just don't say Rio Lobo and El Dorado are "remakes", Hawks was adamant that they were just films that "borrowed" from each other!
The characters are terrific and they are given the dialogue to match, there is even time for a little sing-along in the middle.
They don't make them like this anymore.
