Review of Rio Bravo (1959) by Steven (Mogi) . — 02 Feb 2012
82/100. Definitely not as good as High Noon, but still good in it's own right. Outside of Ricky Nelson, the cast is terrific with highlight performances from Martin and Wayne. Angie Dickinson also does a great job as maybe one of the better leading ladies opposite Wayne, but the tone and urgency of the film's plot sadly make her scenes seem wasted and uninspired.
In a way the film is overrated by some, but it has just about everything a western needs (besides a terrific theme) and gets better upon multiple viewings. Perhaps the best character driven Western since Stagecoach.
Fantastic final shootout, writing, and sets. Short warning: Manly, conservative underlings may turn off feminist and liberal viewers.
