Review of Rings (2017) by Josh E — 13 Feb 2017
Pretty much everything you'd want out of a Rings sequel. Brings the series into the digital age without straying too far from the rules of the franchise. Solid performances from Johnny Galecki and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Had enough jump scares to startle the theater audience I was with. The only truly weak spot of the film is the wooden performance of the lead actress who plays Julia (Matilda Lutz). Her delivery is monotone and lacking of inflection at times in which she should be far more startled, scared or even emotionally drawn into a scene.
Part of that is covered by the ending plot point but it felt like a cheap way to cover for a character whose delivery makes it hard to empathize with. Ultimately though, taken as a whole, this is not a bad entry to the franchise.
