Review of Rikyu (1989) by Cercel C — 15 Oct 2008
Unlike the superstylized films from the Sixties one often remembers Teshigahara for, Rikyu is imbued with exquisite calm and perfection, very much like the tea ceremony itself, and a strong humanitarian approach often amiss in his earlier work.
Some superb acting here as well, where the perfectly balanced Mikuni Rentaro serves as complementary to the headstrong Yamazaki Tsutomu.
