Review of Righteous Kill (2008) by Santosh S — 25 Nov 2009
Back in 1995 many critics and film fans were turned into gibbering wrecks at the prospect of Hollywood heavyweights Pacino and DeNiro finally sharing screentime together. That movie was the over-inflated bore Heat.
Jump forward to 2008 and here they are together again in a less boring but more run-of-the-mill flick Righteous Kill. Quite why so much is expected from such a pairing is beyond me, especially when neither has made a decent movie in some nineteen/twenty years so why expect differently now? Between them and co-star Brian Dennehy they manage to pack in more wrinkles than a coachload of OAPs on their way to Bognor Regis.
It's all kinda laughable to see them still packing their guns with this tale of a vigilante cop. This aint no Dirty Harry, instead it plays like a made for TV effort that certainly miles better than De Niro's output of late (Hide and Seek anyone) and for that matter Pacino's.
Just dont expect the earth and you'll find you have a reasonable time killer on your hands.
