Review of Right at Your Door (2006) by Morgan W — 17 Jun 2008
Pretty good claustrophobia/current events thriller, but the "science" seems kinda shaky. I'm usually not one to nitpick the validity of some assertions, as it is a film. However, it is scary BECAUSE it's supposed to be realistic so my concerns hold some weight.
Correct me if I'm wrong but 1) isn't a dirty bomb basically a "mini nuke" in the sense that its a tiny bomb used to release a cloud of radiation to poison people in a city... not a bomb that releases a virus (they repeatedly said chemical toxins, then they said it was a virus, I'm okay with the difference as the public wouldn't know what it is initially).
2) They also inferred 2 wierd things. A) That he was a carrier and didn't explain how a bomb would only affect people inside homes and not out? Wtf? Unless the bombs didn't have any toxins and it was transferred by water, etc, but then many more people, not just people in homes would be affected.
So first I was like wtf? B) That maybe the virus let into his house "became a toxic hybrid" and that he was a carrier. This implies the virus mutated. From what I know doesn't it need to be in a host, and actively made for the virus to mutate? (Mess-ups in the making of proteins or transcription/packaging of DNA could make a different virus.
) He and that dude were the only one in there and they were there for only a few days, seems kinda fast imo. Oh well, interesting for the suspense part.
