Review of Right at Your Door (2006) by Al M — 02 Sep 2010
A stark, realistic "what if?" film that explores the potential consequences of a dirty bomb attack in Los Angeles. What makes the film so powerful is not its depiction of the attack or the ensuing, totalitarian, martial law but its exploration of how such events affect the lives, identities, and ethics of everyday citizens.
After the attack, the main character tries to concatct his wife. Failing to reach her, the husband hermetically seals himself in the house. But then she returns and the ethical quandary of the film develops: would you sacrifice yourself to help someone you know is probably infected? Right at Your Door is an intelligent, provocative piece of horror cinema that raises legitimate questions in our post-9/11 world.
