Riding in Cars with Boys tells the story of a 16 year old girl who becomes pregnant in the 1950's. She wants to become a writer but instead marries at a young age and raises her child. She is determined to finish school and go to college but her life becomes more difficult as her husband becomes addicted to drugs and can't hold a job.
Drew Barrymore stars as the young mother. The film chronicles her life from young girl to older woman. Barrymore gives an excellent performance. The film also has a great supporting cast featuring Brittany Murphy as her best friend who also marries and has a child at a young age.
Steve Zahn is also great as the drug addicted husband. James Woods and Lorraine Bracco portray the parents. The film is well written and shows the difficulty of young parenthood. It is both funny and dramatic.
