Review of Riding Giants (2004) by Joan T — 30 Jun 2009
Some great old footage, and incredible new footage. Confirms my suspicion that the surfing pioneers were actually some of the original punks.
This made me regret pretending to be a surfer with all my Channel Islands, Rip Curl, and Gordon & Smith clothes, instead of actually being one.
My only complaint: the climax of the movie is an epic wave caught by Laird Hamilton. I don't think the director explained well enough exactly why it was so epic. It was big, yes, but we just saw a bunch of bigger waves. I understand it was more about the mass of the wave and where it was, but I need that sort of technical detail explained in a much more graphic manner. But that's a very minor complaint. You should definitely check this out.
