Review of Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles (2005) by Kevin D — 15 Aug 2007
This is easily Yimou Zhang's most impressive and moving film yet. While it is very slow I never once felt bored while following Ken Takakura on his solem journey to redeem himself and truly understand his dying son.
The films is truly mesmorizing in every sense of the word. As he travels through the simplistic yet beautiful country side of China in desperation to complete a project for his son he instead discovers and faces his own weaknesses as a father for the first time in his life.
I havent been this moved by such a haunting and gorgeous film in a logn time. Just put aside all impatience and give this one a chance, open your heart and soul to it and truly listen to what it has to say.
It's well worth every second. Can't wait till his next film.
