Review of Ride Lonesome (1959) by Davey M — 25 Aug 2010
"Ride Lonesome" is a beautifully shot Western from the fruitful director/actor tandem of Budd Boetticher and Randolph Scott, who built a reputation for consistently producing quality cowboy stories.
Like their other collaborations, "Ride Lonesome" makes use of the scenerio of enemies â?? or characters who don't get along, at least â?? being forced to share close quarters through most of the movie, allowing for expository dialogue that's laced with great dramatic tension.
It also features an ambiguous hero (Scott, naturally) whose backstory is gradually exposed, forcing the audience to constantly shift our perception of him.
