Review of Ride Along 2 (2016) by Sylvester E — 14 Jan 2016
Not much to really say about this one except that it was pretty funny and had a decent story. Just like the first one I guess with more development.
Ride Along 2 is a story that continues what happened in the first one concerning the relationship between Kevin Hart (Ben) and Ice Cube's character (James). Ben is now an officer on probation to become truly part of the force on his way to make detective. He is also about to finally marry James's sister played by Tika Sumpter. A case takes them to Miami where Ben again tries to prove himself to be good enough to be James's partner and a good cop.
All in all it was not bad and had it's moments where you laughed but I would not say that you will laugh out loud as much as you think you might. The action was also pretty good along with the acting considering the roles they had to play in this style of movie. Olivia Munn did a good job playing a tough cop and Ken Jeong did as Ken Jeong does, he played a crazy asian. what I really appreciated most was the fact that the relationship between Ben and James progressed and has evolved to being more than just Ben being an annoying nuisance almost getting folks killed. Ben of course still bumbled around but it all went somewhere to a beneficial conclusion. I'm really interested to see Kevin Hart branch off to do more serious roles. He has truly like he says, become a "Big Deal" and I just wonder if he is still going to keep playing the bumbling loud mouth or will he eventually venture off to doing something more dramatic to add variety to his resume. That being said he has another similar movie coming out with the Rock called Central Intelligence with the same silly, actually even more silly tone. However, much respect to all he has accomplished and I wish him the best.
Is it worth seeing at the movies? Sure, have a night out with friends to have a good laugh. It's worth a ticket price.
