Review of Ricky (2009) by Melody N — 05 Aug 2009
One of my more favourite directors of the past couple of decades from France (Ozon) is back.... and this time he is, it seems (in a way) trying to find a bit of his roots. Having veered off course in the past while (Swimming Pool was the last movie of his I really liked) nothing will probably ever beat his early work, but at least here he tries to recapture some of the slightly bizzare side (not the other side of him that liked to shock) of him I thought made him so quirky.
This is not his best (by a long shot) but it is not his worst... more it is a nice afternoon rainy day movie that will make you feel good, leave you with a laugh or two and make you feel that while this movie is aviously trying to say something, you may not really know what that is... and really after all is said and done, you may not care. For those unfamiliar with Ozon's work, I don't recommend this as a starting point, for it may also be your ending one... but for fans, this won't leave you totally satisfied, but I think it will at least give you a smile... or two).
