Review of Ricki and the Flash (2015) by David J — 16 Aug 2015
It's not Meryl Streep's performance that makes this film mediocre. I sense that studio executives homogenized the story by shaving the grittiness out to acquire a PG13 rating. It feels like darker scenes are missing.
Shouldn't the characters have more inner conflict, regret and loathing! Having said that, Ricki and the Flash delivers a mainstream enjoyable movie intending to please an adult audience without alienating the kids.
Oh and Ms. Streep can sing cover band rock and roll just as well as the pop musical in Momma Mia which was a more enjoyable film.
