Review of Ricki and the Flash (2015) by Julie H — 11 Sep 2015
A new Meryl Streep movie opens and like lemmings, I and a lot of people will just go. Whether it is the lure of seeing her work for the first time with her daughter Mamie or for the French Lieutenant's Woman reunion with Kline, the film delivers mainly because of La Streep and she doesn't disappoint here.
But really, that is the only thing going for this predictably plotted (though they try their best to buck this, bless their black eyeliners), decently acted and generally all round Nice-with-a-capital-N film that reminds me of a more commercial remake of Demme's own Rachel Getting Married but this time, with songs.
