Another one of those stock movies/scripts that were floating around Tinseltown that was made a lot better by the players involved than anything else but is still by the numbers. Demme directs Ricki and the Flash which bares some similariites to Rachel Gets married, focusing on a dysfunctional family who has a troubled or distant relative return just before ones nuptials only to create or recreate some tension that has existed but has not been dealt with for quite some time.

Meryl is reliable as always if it isnt one of her strongest or remarkable performances, this is more about the surprisingly reliable performance by Rick Springfield the musician acting as Meryl put upon new boyfriend and Mamie Gummer, aka Meryl Streeps daughter who showcases the potential to have a decent range like her mother if she does deside to give acting a full on run and not just a one off performance here.

Just a late summer fluff film and not awards bait and I would assume a family affair and chance for the Streeps to hang out. Decent if unmemorable film.
