Review of Ricki and the Flash (2015) by Roxie G — 07 Dec 2015
This is an ok movie, and you shouldn't have any problem watching it. Great music and strong female leads are plus, something which is unfortunately too rare even in this supposedly enlightened world.
However, somehow the movie feels about a decade or a decade and a half old. It is smooth, gives a good punch about unequal opportunities for men and women, but the mix with rock n roll is not very potent, along with the drinks consumed.
The weed seems to have better effect, which probably makes it more modern. Anyway, this movie is Meryl Streep, with some more Meryl and daughter thrown in, and they certainly lift the movie. Rick Springfield is the perfect flawless boyfriend supporting character; the role which women normally plays.
Is this progress? For some good times, and some good music, just go with it, and shut off your brain.
