Review of Rhinoceros (1974) by Irvin C — 12 Jul 2009
In my memory seeing this at the about 5 years old, this was the biggest horror movie in the world. It was darker and I thought it was french. Maybe there is a french version?

However, this film was just plain awful and teaches you never to hunt up what you enjoyed in the memory of your childhood. To begin with I have never liked Gene Wilder, with the only films I can actually watch with him in are Mel Brooks films. We have such overacting and craziness here that you simply get tired listening to it. I suspect that the script is really for a theater rather than movie - and instead of adopting the script to suit a movie - they just "filmed the theater play". The sets are only four, café, office, apartment and roof, each of the first three drawn out with almost no substance.

Ok, gone back and read a bit more on IMDB. The film is in fact based on a play, and is originally French. And, not unlikely the film I saw and scared the big Jesus out of me as a child was "De rinoceros" from 1961.
So lets hope I can find that one - and by doing so NOT listen to what I said few lines above about never going back to look at something you loved as a child.
---.
Main point though - STAY well clear of this disastrous movie with Gene Wilder.
