Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Steven M — 04 Dec 2010
Titanic 2: The Meltdown. Worthy, overwrought, intensely melodramatic, very theatrical and often shouty and unpleasant. These are things I'm not usually so crazy apart in a film, but Rev Road is strangely unpretentious, and is compelling for three reasons - one is the unremittingly bleak and honest view of the dark side of the dated American dream, one is a script that refuses to take sides - investing both lead characters with equal parts flaws and sympathy.
And one is the performances, especially of Jack and Rose. Worthy but worthwhile, although I still prefer Homer and Marge as far as dysfunctional marriages are concerned.
