Revolutionary Road is the more depressing yin to Mendes' American Beauty's yang tinged affair. The familiar chestnut of bleak suburbia weighing down on its inhabitants is nothing new so its never essential, but great performances, writing and direction will make for excellent viewing for those so inclined.
