Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Henry F — 14 Jan 2014
A splendid dive into Richard Bates' famous book, this brilliant drama looks through the spyglass at the average American life, and what can go wrong. Following a suburban couple in the mid-20th Century, it represents the idleness, envy, and melancholy that goes along with it.
The husband is fed up with the "typical" life, so he does everything possible to change his life's future, all while butting heads with his loving wife. It's constantly moving and very powerful, no matter which eye you look at it with.
It's lead actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, bring incredible depth and emotion to this fascinating piece. It''s a home-run film for veteran director Sam Mendes. And this is a more than respectable adaption of Bates' extraordinary novel.
