Great story, but surprisingly bad movie. It really takes some talent to ruin a story this good. I'm not even sure why it was so bad - poor casting choices, bad performances... Kathy Bates for example looks ans sounds like she wandered in from another movie.
And the lead characters are just utterly shallow and unconvincing. In the end of the movie I was just glad it was over.
