Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Aaron J — 25 May 2013

Revolutionary Road is an intense emotional journey into the lives of a troubled couple in a troubled relationship in a troubled world, the world at this time in the film is Connecticut in the 1950s. This intense journey begins with the most flawless of performances by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet a Frank and April Wheeler.

The movie begins with their first encounter at a party then it catapults right into the problems that they face as a married couple many years later. Frank hates his job, and April doesn't want to play housewife, so they look for a change in their lives, an escape from their problems that they begin to face.

Sam Mendes has crafted a brilliant yet painfully beautiful masterpiece that lets you into the coversations that adults have when the children aren't in the room. And Roger Deakins shot it with such beautiful and sweeping cinematography.

The dialogue just flows as if you are reading it from the Richard Yates book. This is because Justin Haytrhe was able to adapt it that way, his script has such gritty and intense dialogue that has you on the edge of your chair.

Last but not least, Michael Shannon... Michael Shannon adds such depth of realism every time he speaks. His raw intensity of his performance adds fuel to the fire of the intensity of the film.
