The French and the English agree: Phillip Douvier (Robert Webber, Private Benjamin) has lost his power. Enraged, Douvier decides to take out Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers, The Pink Panther). So Douvier hires an assassin to track down Clouseau. The assassin is killed by Clouseau by accident. So another assassin tracks him down, and delivers him a bomb. Ammazingly, the bomb blows up half the block, but not Clouseau. So a famous criminal dresses up as a woman, and hijacks Clouseau's car, and drives it into a tree thus killing him. Since it was Clouseau's car, everyone thinks that Clouseau is killed, bringing joy to Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom, A Shot in the Dark). Meanwhile, a supposedly dead Chief Inspector seeks revenge on the guys who financed his "murder".
This is a mature Pink Panther. Sure, it's LOL, but it is much darker than others.
