Review of Revenge of the Nerds (1984) by Matt C — 09 Aug 2010

Revenge of the Nerds is a teen comedy that embodies the feeling of the 80's fairly well, but it basically follows the standards set by the trailblazer of teen comedies Animal House. I just couldn't buy into what the movie was selling, this feel-good, hurray for the nerds vibe it gives off, despite the fact that I'm proud to call myself a nerd.

I think perhaps the film American Splendor sort of gave me some premature perspective on this one, when Harvey says that the nerds in the film are just actors who went right to living their comfortable, far from nerdy based lives after the film.

I'd say that's why I couldn't buy it. But it has enough laughs and tomfoolery to feel marginally satisfied in the end.
