Review of Revenge (2017) by Cole W — 28 Nov 2018
Revenge is a 2017 French rape and revenge action horror film directed and written by Coralie Fargeat in her maiden feature film. It centers around a beautiful young women who is sexually assaulted and left for dead in the desert.
Well this is interesting and polarizing. It's pretty clear the director has something to say mostly about men. Unfortunately, you have to check reality at the door. How much blood an one person lose before dying? There are cringeworthy moments. Some of this looks so fake and with a budget of under three million you can understand why. Sometimes you can see a scare coming a mile away and you're still shocked. Now that's a talented filmmaker. The main question is can you let your mind wander enough to enjoy this considering it's about a rape and a women's quest for revenge? I was on the fence. The performances here, especially by Matilda Lutz are worth writing home about, and it's wonderfully paced, but I never felt the danger or the tension. Final Score: 6.1/10.
