Review of Returner (2002) by Sherry O — 15 Jun 2006
This movie is a little piece of heaven molded in sci-fi action Asian style. The movie had some great actions shots that were incredible but at the same time seemed much less involved with stiff wires and more rooted in real action. The story had several twists and had me longing for the movie not to end. Maybe I am just a sucker but the movie had me emotional more than once. I found the characters real and honest. The story was different and evolving. The shots were both quick with action and also slowed down long enough for the story to focus on the characters and the relationships.
It starred one of my favorite actors, Takeshi Kaneshiro, who you will also remember as the haunting hottie in House of Flying Daggers. The female lead was also great. She was endearing and very different from most ditsy American 'sweethearts' in skimpy tees. I recommend this for adults and older kids alike. If you have a little imagination and a heart you should be able to get into this ride. .
