Review of Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008) by William R — 20 Feb 2009
A big disappointment. Starring the most unsympathetic, hateful, annoying, deserving of malice lead character ever. He's either a great actor or a terrible person. Either way, such a character being the star of the film is really symbolic of how this movie took a beloved franchise and murdered it even more horrifically than Angela herself could have done it.
Also, the movie lacked sufficient gore, save for a few clever death scenes (the best part of the movie is seen after the final credits), most fell flat and were poorly executed unlike this movie's predecessors.
Given the way the movie played out, Felissa Rose's heralded return ended up seeming rather gimmicky as opposed to the homage to the original film's cult legend that her return was supposed to be.
Instead her return is squandered on such a poor script, but I always preferred Pamela Springsteen's brilliant realization of Angela in parts 2 and 3 anyway.
