Review of Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008) by Kyle E — 15 Dec 2009
"Return To Sleepaway Camp" was long overdue, and perhaps that's why it is quite disappointing. All of the kills are cheesy (more so then their 1980 counterparts), the special effects are even worse, and what the hell is Isaac Hayes doing in this movie? He vanishes 30 minutes into the movie, never to be seen again.
My biggest problem with Return is that we go from some decent story lines from the films of the 80's, to having one about a whiny pre-teen who just wants to fit in, yet he's a dick to everyone.
Unlike the other films, I did not once feel bad for the amount of turmoil the main character goes through in this movie. In fact, I was hoping he'd die at some point. Also, the plot twist at the end is seen so far ahead of this movie that it is neither shocking nor gripping, unlike the first film.
I enjoyed it for what it was, and I enjoyed seeing the CKY guys in their little cameos, but other then that, even the hardest of Angela Baker fans will have a hard time getting through this one.
