Review of Return to Oz (1985) by Steve F — 30 Mar 2009
Disney did this? Dark and compelling storytelling, coupled with the fact that it's an "indirect sequal" to one of the most beloved and magical movies of all time make this a must-see. This is how Oz should be: sometimes wonderful, sometimes terrifying.
I give big props to the character of Jack, played by Brian Henson. There's just something about the clumsy and innocent character that you can really sympathize with and enjoy watching. And even though I wasn't too big a fan of the wise-cracking chicken, I LOVED the chicken-oriented dialogue. "Do they still have...THE CHICKEN?!?" "What about...THE CHICKEN??" "Majesty...they have...A CHICKEN.".
