'Return to Oz' is a fantasy film from 1985. This film is very often considered a sequel to the 1939 MGM musical 'The Wizard of Oz.' It is actually mainly based on the series of 'Oz' books in the early 1900's.

This film is not at all supposed to be a sequel to the 1939 film. This is only supposed to be a continuation of the original book by L. Frank Baum. It becomes very annoying when people call this the sequel to the 1939 film when it is actually not.

The result of people calling this a sequel to the 1939 film is that people often compare it, often negatively, to the 1939 movie. People should learn not to give this movie unneeded criticism for not being like the 1939 movie when it is supposed to be like the books.

On to the film. The movie is often dark and even frightening for children. I do not mind it being scary for children because children often like being scared, and it pulls them even further into the movie.

The movie is still incredibly creative and enjoyable to watch. The film is actually much more faithful to the original 'Oz' books than the 1939 movie. Overall, this film should be enjoyable to a person who likes darker fantasy movies for children or people who want a more faithful adaptation of the 'Oz' books than the Judy Garland movie.
