Review of Return to Never Land (2002) by Jaws N — 12 Mar 2014
I don't have a problem with a sequel to Peter Pan. Peter Pan is classic fantasy storytelling. I don't mind that essentially this film uses all the same characters except it substitutes a giant octopus for the shark. I even kinda like the WWII aspects of the film. But Peter Pan 2 is essentially just the same as Peter Pan! The story is roughly the same. There is very little variation going on here. Apparently the only story you can tell using Peter Pan is of believing and imagination and having fun. God forbid you use the setting and characters to tell a different story.
*sigh* This is lazy storytelling at best and if it weren't for the beautiful colours, fun fancy free flying ways of Peter Pan, the always good message, and the fantastical elements, I'd likely hate this film. As such, I'm luke warm on it at best.
