Review of Return to House on Haunted Hill (2007) by Rachel T — 11 Nov 2007
One of the better DTV sequels in recent years, Return is a good solid flick that does the almost unthinkable: it actually expands upon the mythology of it's predecessor and pursues a decent story in the process.
Okay so the cast reads like a who's who of B-list TV actors (OC, ER, 4400 - they're all present!) but they're a fairly decent cast - especially Palladino, who chews the scenery quite nicely as the flick's villain Desmond.
My only real gripe has to be a scene that (although I admit I enjoyed for all the wrong reasons) you could just see coming a mile away. I refer to a scene that plays literally like so: Amanda Righetti + little white vest + tank of freezing water = guess what? Of course she's gonna have to dive in for some obscure reason and as a result give us ten minutes of really great nipple time but could the writers not have thought of a more unexpected way to show off her assets? I mean, that was just signposted way too obviously!
Other than that, decent flick. Nice set up for a threequel, decent cast, good direction from Garcia and I can't fault the effects.
