Review of Return of the Seven (1966) by Senor C — 12 Dec 2010
I've sorta gone @ this series ass backwards watching all the sequels but still not watching the original yet. I don't know why. It has the best cast & on it's own is supposed to be a western classic.
Yul Brynner can hardly make up for the absence of Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn & James Coburn even if it does add Warren Oates to the mix. I love Oates in many movies I've seen him in but here he is just so underutilized.
If you really don't care as long as the basic formula is used & the 7 theme song plays then you probably will enjoy but there are hell of a lot better westerns out there; even some of sequels are better.
Im sure if I'd seen the original I would be even more unimpressed.
