Had it not been for the ending, The Last Laugh would have been one of the best silent films I've ever seen. I know it was studio imposed, but I can't give the film points for what wasn't on screen.
Secret Honor has a powerhouse performance from Philip Baker Hall, but the film's topical nature is its downfall. It takes for granted that viewers 20 years later would have intricate knowledge of everything that went on in the Nixon era.
California Split was fantastic, and it might be my favorite Altman thus far, though Short Cuts was phenomenal.
