Review of Return of the Living Dead Part II (1988) by Carlos D — 10 Sep 2010
Now this is a fall from grace. The movie tries to live off the success of the first but doesnt back it with the same elements that made the first film enjoyable. Besides this seems like an insane sequel to have, the last film ends with a plot point to start from but this movie starts with its own, uncreative stereotypical plot seed that doesnt pay out.
Another question why keep some many similarities, why bring back Thom Mathews and James Karen (I know they are playing different characters but how they acted was similar, the over all actions involving them were similar, and it brought down good characters from the first movie).
If you are gonna change the audience in which this movie series is aimed at, then make a spin off series or another movie not involving the name 'Return of the Living Dead' (Part two was toned down with the swearing, nudity, and the gore, which were the only good things from the first film, if you get rid of those elements you need to replace them with substantial material or the movie is gonna be bad, which this was bad).
I guess this movie was bad because of the writing and the over all marketing, but good god, if you are gonna make a zombie horror movie, either nut up or shut up (meaning, give the audience what they want to see, nudity, hair metal music, violence, gore, and action.
.. and some quotable lines)... People want a bang for their buck and this movie delivered a sizzle and a fart noise.
