Review of Return of the Jedi (1983) by Phillip D — 11 Jul 2015
Although Return of The Jedi was not as critically well received as its predecessors, the nature of wrapping up a trilogy creates challenges that few, if any filmmakers have managed to surmount, at least in the eyes of the critics.
The results for the audience were clear enough however. Return of the Jedi successfully ties off the series in fitting form, bringing the conflict, both personal and galactic, to a perfect crescendo and then taking us on the final journey in a way that felt right.
The symbolism, commitment to practical effects, the fine acting and the scope of the film don't falter for a moment, even if it isn't as technically perfect as its counterparts. On the other hand, the entertainment value of this film is perhaps the highest of the series and I remain thrilled by the final battle sequences.
