Review of Return of the Fly (1959) by Andrew H — 28 Sep 2009
A decent sequel, though it doesn't top the first movie. It is however worthwhile.
Firstly, I saw this back to back with the first, so the story seemed continuous. This film is set almost two decades later; the son of the scientist wants to continue the work his father left off, with a friend of his working allongside. The son however, is aware of his father's tradigy by the sight of flies. In a dramatic twist, the son is doublecrossed by his friend and thrown in the transporter that transforms him to his worst nightmare.
The major change in this film is in black and white; probably due to budget constraints, but to me, it seems to set a new tone. While the first film felt like a mystery story, this feels like a revenge flick, and the sharp b/w effect enhances the story to make it that way.
Overall, an alright sequel. Would recommend you watch after seeing the first.
