Review of Return of the Fly (1959) by Dominic M — 05 Dec 2010
Nothing is ever hopeless.
Philippe Delambre has returned to his father's estate to determine what aspects of his life he can pick up and carry on. Philippe decides to begin executing the scientific aspects of his father's experiments for money. His uncle, Francois, tries to stop him from putting his own life in danger. Before everyone knows it, there is a new fly/human swap and revenge to be had for those responsible. Will innocent victims become victims of the family business?
"You can't divide a business like a sack of apples.".
Edward Bernds, director of Joy Ride (1958), The Storm Rider, Valley of the Dragons, White Lightening, Gasoline Alley, and Blondie's Heroes, delivers The Return of the Fly. The storyline falls in line well with the previous picture and is worth following. Vincent Price is not utilized as well as the previous film and the overall plot is just average. The cast delivers okay performances and includes Price, Brett Hasley, John Sutton, and David Frankham.
"Just a moment my fine, fat, friend.".
The Return of the Fly aired during a Vincent Price marathon this past Halloween. I had thoroughly enjoyed the original and looked forward to viewing this picture. Overall, I found this movie entertaining and a worthwhile sequel. It is nothing special overall and an above average addition to the old school horror genre.
"He destroyed the machine because it destroyed him.".
Grade: C+.
