Review of Return from Witch Mountain (1978) by Dean M — 01 Jan 2009
Very dated, yet a little more exciting than the original "Escape From Witch Mountain". Bette Davis and Christopher Lee chew up the scenery and have a more well fleshed out evil plan than the villains in the previous adventure. However, the movie has the look and feel of a badly shot after school special with a bland visual flair that just does not hold up after all this time.
And one question...would aliens seriously pick the middle of the day to land their spaceship at the Rose Bowl when they could be spotted by virtually thousands of people easily? Oh and how about the rough and tumble street gang that is more like the little rascals than undisciplined street urchins...even their clothes seem too well cleaned and pressed for them to be believable. Of course we're talking about a 70s Disney film here, and they all decide to go back to school in the end.
One of those rare occasions where the original film deserves the remake that is being released in the spring of 2009 with The Rock.
