Review of Retreat (2011) by M G — 27 Feb 2012
This is a low-budget thriller attempt, with a poor cast, main idea and outcome.
'Retreat' is all about a couple who visit their UK island home retreat. They soon become trapped under the distress of an injured soldier. The film, without revealing too much, is about a relationship in trouble and the premise that there is an infection outside, and so they have to board up their home and stay inside, with an acquired, unlike-able, tetchy soldier.
The acting holds effort but the main three aren't manys cup of tea, and the characters are neither likeable, strong or deep. The idea is laughable, even with a twist, and the situation more silly than uncomfortable or interesting/engaging.
I like British films, I don't mind low-budget films but I don't like empty, weak, pointless films (of which this obviously is).
