Review of Retreat (2011) by Sean W — 26 Jun 2012
I can easily get caught up in the idea of a movie, in what it could have been, in what it should have been. I'm not going to do that here. In Retreat, the execution is terrible. It gets increasingly tedious as it wears on, losing all true suspense by the halfway point.
It's not that the plot is a bad concept but rather that the story has a poorly conceived angle. I will say however, as a singular bright spot, a film so terribly directed as this rarely boasts three stellar performances.
Somehow the actors rose above the occasion.
