Review of Resurrecting the Champ (2007) by Steven W — 12 Mar 2008
I kind of debated between 2.5 and 3 stars for this, it was that good.
I was pretty bored watching this movie, which is saying a lot because the other alternative to watching this is sitting in my room and doing something even more boring like reading a book in French or studying. And yet, it took me three days to get through it because I kept pausing it to do stuff like cut my toenails and reorganize my make up, all of which seemed to take a sudden priority in my ADD mind.
Also, I am kind of over Samuel L Jackson; he peaked for me in Pulp Fiction and since then I haven't been as impressed. I know he is a good actor, but roles like this irritate me. A little too Hallmark After School.
Josh Hartnett is OK to look at, but I really could have done without whats her face with the horrible bangs from that show the Closer. Can this woman please get a hair make over, I refuse to watch that show because her bangs are the visual equivalent of nails on a blackboard. And she is the moral authority of this movie, which kind of added to my disdain.
Basically, this movie is mediocre at best, with mediocre writing, mediocre performance and a nauseating message about "doing the right thing and telling the truth so your kids will respect you." gag me, it is about as mentally challenging as a game of checkers.
Looking back on this review, it seemed I should have given it 2.5 stars after all, but I am going to let them keep the extra half of a star because I did cry at the end. Sigh, I am such a sucker.
